Communist Party of India has declared that Kanhaiya Kumar will fight Lok Sabha election, due in 2019 after 17 months, from Begusarai- his home district in Bihar.
The national secretary of CPI council RK Narayan has said that Kanhaiya Kumar is the probable candidate of CPI in Lok Sabha election from Begusarai.
CPI has said that they have taken consent of ex-JNUSU leader Kanhaiya Kumar to fight in the 2019 Lok Sabha election.
Narayan gave this statement after a 2-day state council meeting of the CPI leaders in Patna. Though there is also a proposal to make him a candidate for Lok Sabha from Kerala as well, but the Bihar unit of CPI is more adamant and demanding to get him to fight from Bihar.
Begusarai seat has been under a BJP candidate since the last 2 general elections. It seems that by fielding Kanhaiya Kumar, it would make things difficult for BJP to keep the Lok Sabha seat intact because even Lalu Prasad Yadav can give support to Kanhaiya Kumar. Earlier, the BJP has won the seat with very little margin.
According to Left parties, Kanhaiya is preparing himself to fight the general election and even canvassing in his constituency. But there is speculation among party workers that he can fight from some other place as well.
It seems that the final decision for him being the candidate from Begusarai will take place after meeting of the coalition, because there is a probable chance that RJD, Congress and Left will fight the election together.
Though the RJD is saying that canvassing in Begusarai will be tough, but being a popular face as a leader of students union, all might agree on that.
Kanhaiya Kumar, after being released from jail last year, went to Patna and met Nitish Kumar and RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav. After he genuflected in front of Lalu, he came under criticism from the opposition.
Kanhaiya Kumar has said in the past that he will follow Dr Ambedkar, rather than Mr Modi.
