IPS trainee retakes IAS Mains exam, caught cheating

In a shocking incident, Shabir Karim, an IPS officer on probation was caught cheating by using a Bluetooth device during the civil services (main) examination in Chennai on Monday.

According to a report on news18.com, Shabir’s wife is alleged to have been dictating answers to him over the phone, while he was giving the exam in Presidency Girls Higher Secondary School.

Currently as assistant superintendent of police from Tirunelveli, Karim was writing the exam as he wanted to be an IAS officer. He was undergoing training at Nanguneri subdivision of Tirunelveli, after getting selected for IPS in 2014.

While both the husband and wife have been taken into police custody, Shabir has been charged under Section 420 of the IPC (cheating and dishonesty). Sources said he was likely to be dismissed from his IPS post, as he was still in the probationary period. The local police sought Hyderabad police’s help to arrest his wife.
